US based automaker Ford is planning to launch its 2014 ford Fiesta with 1.0L EcoBoost three-cylinder engine in North American market.

The new three-cylinder engine, which will produce 123hp and peak torque of 148 lb-ft, is expected to deliver enhanced fuel economy.

The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine will offer new technologies, including an offset crankshaft, variable oil pump, split cooling system, external-balancing, small, responsive turbocharger and a timing belt immersed in engine oil.

Combining turbocharging with gasoline direct injection and variable valve timing, the EcoBoost engine will replace the larger engine with a smaller one with no loss of performance and at least a 20% gain in fuel economy.

The new 1.0-litre's advanced design will deliver about the same output as a 1.6-liter four-cylinder, but with about 25% fewer moving parts, delivering higher fuel economy and lower emissions.

In Europe, Ford is introducing the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine in the B-MAX and C-MAX as well as offered in the all-new Mondeo.
